Setting Sail…..

“When great adventure is offered, you don’t refuse it.” — Amelia Earhart

A ‘leap of faith’.  That’s what it was.  A friend was going to spend all of April in Italy and knew of my immense love for the country and asked me to join for part of the trip.  There were so many reasons to NOT go.  April is one of my busiest work months, I was slammed, I shouldn’t spend the money to go, and so on.  Not to mention that I had been to Italy twice before – both amazing trips that I will never forget.  How could I top it?

I stewed over the decision for months, checked airline fares daily, and thought of every reason why I shouldn’t go.  Then, I remembered back to my two previous trips to Italy…they were both a leap of faith, and I almost didn’t go.  However, both trips ended up being major turning points in my life or my career, and I couldn’t imagine NOT having taken those trips.  So why should it be any different with this one?  Right?

So I took a big leap, and bought a plane ticket.  I mean, this was Italy. I.T.A.L.Y.  My favorite place in the world!  Why wouldn’t I go?!  My word of the year for 2013 was “Adventure” and I was not being very adventurous, I needed to start!

And off I went.  Because this time was so crazy and stressful with work, I told myself that I would totally forget about work, everyday life, everything – and just enjoy myself.  No computer, no internet, no emails, just fun.  You can’t imagine how amazing it is to completely disconnect (if you’ve never done it).  And that’s when the magic started to happen.  Just having time to think, and breathe and just BE was food for the soul.  This is also usually where my best ideas are born.  So, through a series of random, serendipitous events throughout the trip, this blog was born.

You see, I’ve always been a travel fanatic.  From my first flight, I was in love.  The stress that most people feel when entering an airport, for me is replaced by pure excitement!  I love the entire process of getting there, flying, airports, trains, the exhilaration of being in a completely foreign and new place, and learning new things about people from other cultures.  It is a thrill.  So there I was, riding a boat up the coast along the Cinque Terre in Italy, and it finally hit me.  Why am I not doing something with my photography work that is related to travel.  Because I already take my camera everywhere I go, and have an entire catalog of travel images from all of my trips.  Why am I not using these?  Why am I not showing them to the world?  Why am I not focusing on this type of work?

That’s when I decided that I needed to do this; I needed to create this site and share not only my travel photography, but also my travel stories.  It is not only a portfolio of my travel work, but this will also be a personal travel journal of all of my adventures.  There are plenty of travel stories to tell, and even new journey’s to be taken.  This is the home for these adventures.  Adventure started it all, led to my Italy trip, which led me to create this blog.  Each the result of the other.

So here I am, setting sail on an new adventure; not sure of where it will lead, but have all the faith that I am going in the right direction.
